Remember when i did that sped up post processing video a while back? well i decided to do another one. i had an amazing shoot last wednesday and felt like it was a great excuse to do another one. thanks to the whole crew of folks who made this one a possibility. there were two other photographers and i (dirtysurface and kk) as well as our fabulous models Drew Deveaux, Jimmeh and Nomi. BIG BIG THANKS to kk for showing up to a shoot of a photographer who you barely knew and assisting the hell out of it!

So this is a little random and out of place, but i decided to work on some old stuff yesterday and thought i'd share the first step... when Jiz Lee was in town a while back (and we shot for the blindfold series) we also spent some time playing with stop motion stuff. this is the first section of the body roll stuff. there's a lot more rolling, so i am anticiapting putting more of it together, but for now, you get this!

The Blindfold Project
Power and vulnerability are central to The Blindfold Project. In this ongoing series of images, artist Maxwell Lander confronts the photographer-photographed dynamic by mixing up the traditional 'gaze' and creative authority that is given to those holding a camera. When the project began, Lander herself was unsure of what to expect. She hoped to provide a safe space for models to explore relationships to their bodies, and encouraged them to let their guard down while the photographer's (creative) eye was removed from the scenario. What she didn't anticipate was her own vulnerability as she found herself pulled outside of her element.Handing over creative control to her models, Lander has spent each shoot sitting with a blindfold covering her eyes. Focus (and aim!) has been manual and intuitive, with only a voice or the occasional sound of movement as guidance. The results so far have been varied and wonderfully surprising: some shoots are funny and playful, some wild and artistic, some raunchy and intensely sexual. Everyone has taken the space in front of the camera to a new place

I fucking love porn stars. i'll rephrase that, i fucking love these porn stars. and all the ones i've met because of them. it's amazing what shooting one porn star does for your social network. i was luckily enough to be asked to speak on a panel with Dylan Ryan last winter, and if i do say so myself, we hit it off instantly. She fucking fabulous, and loves bacon, which of course i appreciate. i can't really imagine a kinky queer pornster who loves bacon that i wouldn't become slightly photographically obsessed with... anyway, we decided at that conference that maybe we should explore our shared love of bacon with a photoshoot (which if you haven't seen resulted in two images - this & this). Since this timing coincided with me being immersed in blindfold shooting i invited Dylan to be a part of the project, which she jumped right into! if i remember correctly, we spent the morning shooting blindfold and the afternoon shooting with raw bacon. needless to say, one of my favourite days of shooting ever. i'll be honest, i was expecting Dylan to be scandalous. and although she wasn't all that much so, i was not at all dissapointed. i explained that people were allowed to speak during the shoot if they wanted, or they could not if that wanted to be mean to me as i would have no idea what was going on. she was silent. it was awesome. and i love the outcome.
Remember that comment about what shooting one porn star does for your social network? Jiz Lee (among other things) is what shooting one porn star did for my social network. and aren't I grateful! Jiz is awesome. they emailed me up after seeing that i had worked with Dylan saying they were gonna be in toronto and would i shoot them. would i? would i ever! i was definitley nervous, as Jiz showed up at the studio ready for blindfoldiness and i had only met them for all of 30 seconds the night before! but all nerves just melted away, because Jiz f-ing Lee is beyond lovely! we dove right in, and chatted away, all the time me having no idea what was going on. i most definitely did not know that what follows was happening. i can say this about both of these lovey folks - shooting people who have lots of experience in front of the camera is always a special treat. especially ,for this project specifically, two people who are used to being vulnerable in front of the camera! i'll say it again - I FUCKING LOVE THESE PORN STARS!!!!!
